The Green Card Lottery
If you are thinking of moving to the USA and intend to do this via a legal route then the Green Card Lottery would be the option for you. Basically what this is, is a lottery whereby you apply because you were born in a country that is a low percentage of immigration to the USA. America has the highest percentage of immigrants accepted into its borders every year (compared to its population) and even though it is no longer the economic powerhouse that it once was it is still a very lucrative prospect for many people and a gateway to a better life.So what are the legal requirements for this green card and how can you be entered into the lottery in order to try and obtain one? Well you need to have been born in a country that is on the eligible list; note that this does not mean that you are simply a resident of that country you actually have to be born there and this is a very common mistake that many people make. This is just the first criteria and you will need to make the second one as well to be legally allowed to take part in the lottery.
Basically you need to have completed a high school diploma or the equivalents qualification in your country to be admitted into the lottery. However, that being said, you can get around this if you work in a specified industry and if you do then you will not need to be able to prove that you have a high school education. Indeed, you do not need to be a fluent speaker of English either and this is another thing that many people wrongly believe is a pre-requisite of being able to participate in this program.
